Norwegian Joy is NCL's First Ship to Home Port in Los Angeles
Published Thursday, May 2nd 2019 - Updated Thursday, May 2nd 2019Cruise Planners Getaway Gang was fortunate enough to experience an overnight voyage on the newly revitalized Norwegian Joy this week in Los Angeles as part of her U.S. inaugural tour. Built in 2017, the Joy is a "Breakaway Plus" class ship. Her sister, the NCL Bliss, has already been a huge success. Originally designed for the Asia market, the Joy has just undergone a $50 million-plus revitalization and will be moving to the U.S. market this spring. She will be Norwegian's first ship to home port in Los Angeles, upping their presence on the west coast and offering cruisers more options for fantastic vacations out of Southern California. Her itineraries will include Alaska, the Mexican Riviera, and the Panama Canal.
See the transformation take place in this excellent video:
Some of the features that set the NCL Joy apart include:
- The Observation Lounge is a huge 2 story, glass-enclosed area on the front of the ship that offers cruisers breathtaking views. Also a feature of the Bliss, this area was designed especially for Alaskan panoramas. However, it is a fantastic space for itineraries of all types and is our absolute favorite feature on this ship.
- The Galaxy Pavilion offers an amazing virtual reality and video gaming experience for cruisers of all ages.
- Laser Tag and a two-level Go-Kart Racetrack offer thrills one can hardly believe they're experiencing on a cruise ship!
- Specialty Dining options abound, and include 8 different options (in addition to Norwegian's outstanding dining rooms and buffet) for all tastes. Cuisines include steakhouse fare, BBQ, American diner classics, French, Italian, Teppanyaki, seafood, and Asian fusion.
- Exclusive to the Joy are the new Concierge Class rooms. Offering cruisers a more exclusive experience between standard cabins and The Haven, these rooms include round-the-clock concierge service, priority embarkation/disembarkation, private dining, and many cabin options that are large enough to accommodate families. The Concierge Inside Family Cabin boasts 500 square feet with 2 baths, 2 bedrooms, and a "virtual" balcony.
We can't recommend this beautiful new ship highly enough, especially for west coasters who are looking to take their cruising to the next level. Reach out to us today to help plan your next voyage on the Norwegian Joy!
